3D Driving School is exactly what it sounds like. It is a program that is designed to replicate the experience that you would have attending a driving class without much of the hassle. Rather than having to get a ride or walk to a driving school and attend classes in person, this program allows you to learn the ropes from the comfort of your computer chair. It features 3D graphics and can be controlled with your keyboard and mouse or an attached steering wheel, such as the type that you would use for racing games.

Fans of games like Need for Speed, Grand Theft Auto and Burnout will want to look elsewhere. This is more of a simulator than a game. The objective is to drive from point "A" to point "B" without crashing or violating traffic safety laws. You won't get any points for hitting other vehicles, speeding or trying to ramp your car off of a tow truck ramp. These are all things to avoid. Instead, keep your speed within the posted limit, stop when required, stay on the correct side of the road, keep an eye on your mirrors and use your signals properly.

Because this program was designed in Germany, it is based on German traffic rules. As such, you will drive on the right side of the road. Despite being a German program, the interface is in English. Graphics are sufficient but will not provide much in the way of entertainment. Everything looks like what it is supposed to represent. A nice touch is that the program lets you turn your head to look out the left and right windows. It even presents a rear-view mirror approximately where it would be in a real car.

There is no replacement for real behind-the-wheel driving experience. However, 3D Driving School is a worthwhile supplement and well worth a try.
